چکیده

The key to successful applications of soft tissue lasers and their advantages over other surgical tools is their ability to accurately cut and efficiently coagulate the soft tissue at the same time. However, not all lasers are efficient at both cutting and coagulating. Some laser wavelengths (such as those of Erbium lasers) are great at cutting but are not as efficient at coagulating.1 Other wavelengths (such as those of diode lasers) are efficient coagulators but are poor scalpels.2 There are also lasers (such as the CO2 laser) that are efficient at both cutting and coagulating the soft tissue.1 The key to understanding how the laser light cuts and coagulates is through the wavelength-dependent nature of laser light’s absorption by the soft tissue, as presented in Figure 1 for the three wavelength groups of practical dental lasers that are on the market today: • circa 1,000 nm (diodes and Nd:YAG laser) • circa 3,000 nm (Erbium lasers) • circa 10,000 nm (CO2 lasers)

The Effect of Polarized Laser Radiation on Viscoelastic Properties of Soft Tissue

Background: Laser-tissue interaction on low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has widespread medical applications (e.g., improved wound healing). The tensile strength of radiated tissue by LLLT is known to be increased mainly because of cross collagen bands developed after radiation. Objective: In this work, we studied the instantaneous effect of radiation of polarized laser beam on the viscoelastic ti...

High Intensity Lasers in Periodontics: A Review

Background and Aim: Lasers can serve as a new powerful tool in dentistry. High intensity laser therapy is becoming the treatment of choice compared with conventional periodontal therapy due to accurate incision and soft and hard tissue ablation, hemostasis, reduction of postoperative pain and infection, optimal debridement, and enhanced healing. Although high intensity laser therapy assumes to ...

In vitro histological evaluation of the surgical margins made by different laser wavelengths in tongue tissues

BACKGROUND Lasers have become standard tools for the surgical treatment of oral lesions. The purpose of this study is to determine the surgical margins and histologically evaluate the tissue thermal effects induced by different types of surgical instruments. MATERIAL AND METHODS Cuts were made in pork tongues' mucosa with different lasers (Er:YAG at 2W with and without air / water spray and a...

Laser Energy in Oral Soft Tissue Application--JLD 18(3) 2010

I N T R O D U C T I O N Lasers have been used for oral soft tissue dental procedures for more than 30 years, and have been researched since the middle 1960s. Their reported benefits over conventional treatment modalities include: reducing numbers of appointments, reducing stress, improving visibility, improving patient comfort, and reducing complications. Critics have commented that most of the...

Laser Application in Periodontics

Introduction: The use of lasers for treatment has become a common phenomenon in the medical field. Currently, numerous laser systems are available for dental use. The use of lasers for periodontal treatment becomes more complicated because the periodontium consists of both hard and soft tissues. Methods: Related articles were gathered and selected carefully and reviewed. Among the many lasers a...
